We is a group of riders that I support in their DH endeavors that beet great success with ceramic pads. Ceramic pads work, trouble is, they dissolve when used in wet. You are right though, ceramic discs wouldn't work, as the operating temperature is too high.
You would need to to have them glowing all the time for them to work properly.
